It is an inventory because it presents all the projects realized during this period with many figures and illustrations. It is a hinge because links and QR codes grant access to nearly all publications and websites that were created by the individual projects. Artistic work interconnects multiple competencies and areas of knowledge, ways of life and working, and the IFCAR research projects are thus organized in correspondence with this transgressive gesture, which becomes manifest here as interdisciplinary, networked knowledge production. The publication presents an overview of the research project "Art Public Zurich" and al... more The publication presents an overview of the research project "Art Public Zurich" and also places it within a theoretical framework. After introducing the mission statement and the Organization Art in Public Space Zurich, developed in cooperation with the City of Zürich, the methodological approach will be described that underlies the project, namely, to determine factors that will open contextual fields of reference for public art, thereby strengthening its social relevance. One section of the contribution leads to the thesis that art in public space – similar to comparable phenomena in the sciences – can trigger a profound reevaluation of the concept of art. The closing section examines artistic research and its significance in our knowledge society. The point of departure was a competition that was held for a master plan for public art in the new Europaallee district in the centre of Zurich, the first such plan in Switzerland. The urbanist Richard Wolff presents the urban development project Europaallee, which is currently being built, and traces the around 50-year-long historical development of the project and its changing politico-economic conditions. With Europaallee, the neoliberal city of Zurich is bolstering its position as a global city that is competing with other global cities economically. Objectives: To study the effect of compost and biochar on phytoremediation of crude oil-contamina... more Objectives: To study the effect of compost and biochar on phytoremediation of crude oil-contaminated soil. Methods: An attempt was made to remediate crude oil contaminated soil, using the phytoremediation method. The soil was amended with biochar and compost. Initially, the pH, moisture content and C/N ratio of the soil and amendments were determined. A pot culture experiment was conducted to study the effect of the amendments on the degradation of the Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) in the crude oil contaminated soil using the plant species nutgrass (Cyperus rotundus). To avoid seepage of water from the pots plastic pots were used. The initial concentration of TPH was found to be 17mg/kg soil. The experiment was conducted from January to March 2019. No microorganism was inoculated either to enhance the growth of the plant or degrade the hydrocarbon. The study was conducted with natural microflora. The pots were kept (open) under direct sunlight with 8 hours of photoperiodism. The plants were watered daily with tap water to maintain optimum moisture content. Once in 15 days, the soil samples collected from each treatment were analysed for pH, moisture content and C/N ratio. The TPH removal rate was determined for the 45 th day and 60 th day. Findings: The soil amended with compost (200 kg/soil) and biochar (50 kg/soil) enhanced the degradation of TPH by the plant species. The highest degradation percent of 62.2 and 77.1% was achieved on 45 th and 60 th day respectively in the treatment T5 (amended with biochar and compost). Further, there was an increase in shoot length (54.52 cm/plant), root biomass (0.74 g/plant) and shoot biomass (5.08g/plant) of the plants in the biochar and compost amended soil which was comparable with the results of the treatment T2 (Plants were grown in soil without crude oil contamination). Applications: Biochar and compost amendment improves the water holding capacity and nutrient status of the soil, thereby enhancing the growth of TPH degraders in soil. Hence, from the study, it is understood that biochar and compost could be used for phytoremediation of crude oil contaminated soils.

In this paper, Christoph Schenker replies to several aspects addressed by sociologist Sabine Maas... more In this paper, Christoph Schenker replies to several aspects addressed by sociologist Sabine Maasen in her paper "Collaborating in and Beyond Science" and relates them to the field of the fine arts. In drawing attention to artists in this context, he is referring specifically to those who conduct research just as scientists do. He concludes that, comparable to the figure of the intellectual, artists move beyond the specific knowledge and competences conventionally assigned to them as artists. Strictly speaking, an artist proves to be an artist through the very act of transgressing the bounds of aesthetics. Although he would not claim that art as a whole is a zone of exchange, a space of transaction among knowledge cultures and lifeforms with the artist as "interactional expert," he would, nonetheless, ventrue to say that art has assimilated transgression.

These tutorial notes present a methodology for spreadsheet engineering. First, we present data mi... more These tutorial notes present a methodology for spreadsheet engineering. First, we present data mining and database techniques to reason about spreadsheet data. These techniques are used to compute relationships between spreadsheet elements (cells/columns/rows). These relations are then used to infer a model defining the business logic of the spreadsheet. Such a model of a spreadsheet data is a visual domain specific language that we embed in a well-known spreadsheet system. The embedded model is the building block to define techniques for modeldriven spreadsheet development, where advanced techniques are used to guarantee the model-instance synchronization. In this model-driven environment, any user data update as to follow the the model-instance conformance relation, thus, guiding spreadsheet users to introduce correct data. Data refinement techniques are used to synchronize models and instances after users update/evolve the model. These notes briefly describe our model-driven spreadsheet environment, the MDSheet environment, that implements the presented methodology. To evaluate both proposed techniques and the MDSheet tool, we have conducted, in laboratory sessions, an empirical study with the summer school participants. Urbane Künste Ruhr gründete sich im Nachgang der Europäischen Kulturhauptstadt, verbunden mit dem Auftrag, den Wandel des Ruhrgebietes aus Sicht der Kunst zu begleiten, zu kommentieren und im besten Sinne auch zu forcieren. Ein großes Anliegen von Urbane Künste Ruhr war und ist es, neue Formen der regionalen Zusammenarbeit zu finden; experimentelle Arbeitsweisen im interdisziplinären Dialog zu suchen; und Prozesse mit offenem Ausgang zu initiieren, um so der gerade entfachten kulturellen Kraft des Ruhrgebietes auch für die Zukunft einen gesunden Nährboden zu bereiten. Vom Standpunkt aus des Pragmatismus lässt sich das Geistige – das Metaphysische, das Transzendente, die Idee – als Gedanken auffassen. Und beschäftigen wir uns mit künstlerischer Forschung – nicht mit Kunst im allgemeinen, sondern mit dem forschenden Aspekt der künstlerischen Arbeit –, so legen wir das Augenmerk weniger auf deren Ergebnisse, die Kunstwerke, auch nicht auf die Theorie, denn vielmehr auf die Praktiken des Machens, auf die Prozesse, die Neues hervorbringen, auf die spezifische Form des künstlerischen Tätigseins. Verknüpfen wir nun den Standpunkt des Pragmatismus mit der Perspektive der Kunstforschung, erscheint das Geistige – verkürzt gesprochen – als ein Denken oder, in den Worten Paul Valérys, als „Literatur in den Kulissen des künstlerischen Schaffens“. Gemäss einem solchen Verständnis stellt sich die Frage nach der Möglichkeit der gegenständlichen Darstellung des Geistigen in der Kunst wie folgt: Wie ist in der künstlerischen Arbeit das Verhältnis bestimmt zwischen dem Denken einerseits und den materiellen Praktiken des Machens andererseits?

Some of these were published in the volume "Kunst und Öffentlichkeit - Kritische Praxis der Kunst im Stadtraum Zürich" (ed. by Christoph Schenker and Michael Hiltbrunner, Zurich 2007). The studies and their evaluation served as a basis for inviting the artists. They also formed the starting point for determining factors to which the artists implicitly or explicitly referred in their works. For the works of Sislej Xhafa and Zilla Leutenegger, it was above all factors from the social field that formed the points of reference. The contributions to this publication draw attention to these aspects where they are visible and can be experienced. They present the context on which a work of art is based as well as the environment with which the work enters into dialogue. The booklet contains 29 short articles with illustrations on the formative aspects of the neighbourhood as well as interviews with Zilla Leutenegger and Sislej Xhafa.

Die Publikation ist Teil des transdisziplinären Forschungsprojekts ‹public plaiv – Gegenwartskunst im Landschafts- und Siedlungsraum La Plaiv› (2001/02). Es handelt sich dabei um das erste institutionelle Forschungsprojekt einer Schweizer Hochschule, das künstlerische Fragestellungen ins Zentrum stellt. Es sind mithin die realisierten Kunstwerke, die das Ergebnis der Forschung darstellen. Als Pilotprojekte leisten sie zudem einen entscheidenden Beitrag zur Formulierung einer innovativen Strategie für ein künftiges Vorgehen mit öffentlicher Kunst in der Region.
