Purpose :The purpose of this case study research is to learn and understand the acquisitions of the emotional intelligence competencies of a group of FM leaders through their life experiences and to learn the level of self-awareness which is the basis of the emotional intelligence competencies of FM leaders within the case being studied in Switzerland.
Design/methodology/approach: a single case study of a group of 7 FM leaders across FM services is the design of the research. The research applies and adopted the combined uses of a narrative biographical interview approach and a critical incident base interview technique approach in exploring and understanding the acquisitions of emotional intelligence competencies of FM leaders and to learn the level of emotional intelligence of them. Narrative Analysis is used to develop a personal description or life story of each FM leader. Also the conceptual framework adopted from the matrices analysis was developed to map the competencies of a group of FM leaders with 7 dimensions of the self-awareness competency.
