Dear Yulewriter (Yuletide 2014)
Dear Yulewriter
Hey there! This is my first year actually signing up for Yuletide, after years of sitting out and just enjoying what's produced, so I'm super excited to read what you create for me.
I like to think I'm fairly easy-going as far as being a recipient goes - I love a wide range of fic genres and tropes, and I have some fairly easy to dodge dislikes.
Loves: Non-mundane AUs (eg magical/werewolf/blitzball AUs, as opposed to college/highschool/bakery AUs), angst, action, humour, darkfic, action, casefic, missionfic, getting-together fic. I love what-ifs and canon divergence AUs! I love fic that really gets into the character's thoughts and feelings, letting that drive what happens. I also happen to love blood and injury as a part of hurt/comfort or action, or when characters just won't stay down. Themes of memory (false ones, partial ones etc) and differing perspectives are also a big yes.
I love femslash and gen!
Dislikes: Pregnancy and kidfic. Kinks in general can be very hit or miss for me, sometimes they hit the spot and sometimes not. In this case, please steer away from them if possible. Abuse of power (teacher student, guard/prisoner, doctor/patient) really isn't my thing at all. On a whole other level - non-con, torture, bestiality.
Drag-On Dragoon 3 | Drakengard 3
Character: Zero
I only started playing this game about two weeks ago, partly prompted by seeing it appear in the tagset in Yuletide 2014. I'd heard some great things, read up quickly on the premise, and decided to give it a try. Turns out that this game is amazing and while the game has some elements I find skeevy, it makes me laugh with its jokes and lampshading of the JRPG genre on the whole, and between all the Branches, it has this weird sort of heart to it that I can't quite describe.
Ultimately it's left me hungry for fic, and while honestly I'd read almost anything with any combination of the characters in the tagset, I've narrowed my choices down to Zero.
One of the things I love about Zero is that she is the complete opposite of what I'd expected, having had almost no experience with the game prior to buying it. She's violent, powerful, snappy, quick-witted, abrasive and a self-proclaimed asshole. She's not a nice person. She doesn't take crap from anybody, allies included. But there is this protective streak she shows when dealing with Mikhail later on in the story, and knowing more about her backstory as the game unfolded (and through reading the novellas) I understood more of why Zero was the way she was.
As for prompts, here are around eight unaccounted for months between Zero's death/infection by the flower and her subsequent attempt to tear it out. I'd like to see some of what happened in those missing months – did Zero immediately understand what had happened, did she understand what the flower was? Were the changes to her body and the power it gave something she immediately recognised? What made her realise that the flower was a very bad thing?
I've also come to like the theory that the five younger Intoners were based on people that Zero had encountered during her life previously, picked up by the flower and really taking shape when the Intoners gained their sentience outside of simply being Zero copies. For example, in the Zero novella released, they could be based on the five freedom fighters sharing her cell just before she was infected by the flower, or any other versions you wish to come up with. Zero recognizing those traits of the people she'd met as she interacts with the Intoners, getting senses of déjà vu… any way that you wish to explore Zero's perspective on them would be amazing.
Monkey Island
Character: Guybrush Threepwood
I absolutely adore the Monkey Island series, and it's been a longtime favourite of mine for years. While I haven't played Tales of Monkey Island yet, it's on my to do list! I love the pop culture references, I love that Guybrush is a complete dork and all the amazing adventures he seems to find himself on. He's the hero nobody expects and I love how he gets himself into - and out of - the most impossible situations.
I'd love gen for this one, but I still adore Guybrush's relationship with Elaine if you want to include that.
For prompts, really, I'd just love some more of what canon gives us. I'd love a scene from Guybrush's latest adventure-slash-disaster. Insult Sword Fighting, somehow managing to solve an impossible supernatural problem with dumb luck and a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle. Hell, you could even have Guybrush and Timmy the Monkey messing with one another while Elaine is trying to run a ship.
I'm absolutely happy to receive a darkfic for this canon, too, if that's the way your mind is leaning.
Brooklyn Nine Nine
Characters: Amy Santiago, Rosa Diaz
Wow, this show. I fell completely in love with it shortly after season one finished airing, it was just so funny and fresh and I loved that all the characters were great at their jobs (well, Scully and Hitchcock aside and that's one of my few qualms with the show). I love all the characters, so while we might have only matched on Amy and Rosa, feel free to include any other of the dorks they work with.
I'd love either femslash or gen for this fandom - I ship Amy/Rosa pretty hard and love what canon has shown us of their dynamic so far. So that could be explored further as both friends or as potential romantic partners.
In terms of prompts, I'd love to see Amy feeling a bit conflicted following Jake's confession before he, you know, bailed on her for a long-term undercover case. Maybe she and Rosa grow a bit closer as Amy opens up about her conflict (or maybe Rosa just gives her some tough-love advice), and maybe they manage to strike up a bit of a friends with benefits type thing. Of course, it ends up being even more conflicting than the issues Amy was trying to distract herself from.
If you want to set it in season 2, perhaps Rosa drags Amy in for some advice on how to deal with Jake. If you want to make it shippy, you could explore Rosa's potential developing feelings for Amy and how that might impact her own friendship with Jake.
Or, hey, they could be chatting when Holt assigns them inventory, which gives you loads of room to really give a snapshot of their amazing dynamic.
