OPERAS Portuguese National Node, by the University of Coimbra (UC)
Description
Being an OPERAS Executive Assembly member means, among other things, having the opportunity to develop an OPERAS national node. The University of Coimbra leads the Portuguese node, which gathers stakeholders from the Portuguese publishing landscape and Research Performing Organisations. The Portuguese national node has developed activities focused on Open Access publishing practices in Social Sciences and Humanities. In 2021, we promoted a workshop to discuss publishing stances and the Diamond situation with members from OPERAS and publishers from the Portuguese and Ibero-American landscape. The node has also actively presented and promoted OPERAS services in the local context. Between 2021 and 2022, the node provided workshops and presentations about OPERAS discovery service, GoTriple. The service, which aims at researchers, journalists, policymakers, librarians, and civil society at large, brings together more than 12 million documents, 20 thousand projects, and 13 million researcher profiles to facilitate collaboration in the SSH in the whole European Research Area. The University of Coimbra is a member of the GoTriple committee and, as the Portuguese national node leader, will continue to promote and engage the platform in the national context. Aligned with the Multilingualism Special Interest Group, the node has put together efforts to develop and prototype a machine-translation-supported service for researchers, which will contribute to promoting multilingualism at the national and European levels. The service will be available to all OPERAS members and the research community at large. The OPERAS Portuguese national node aims to bring together more stakeholders in the national publishing landscape to further develop activities targeted to the publishing area, promoting Open Access publishing best practices and advancing cooperation. Currently, it is also directly involved in the development of Open Science Communities at the local level. The node intends to grow in the regional landscape in the future, associating Ibero-american actors to promote cultural exchange and boost engagement.
