Battlestargate?

Stargate Universe ("SGU") premieres this evening in the US and Canada, on 10/6 in the UK and Ireland and in Australia on 10/9. Billed as "military scifi," the series is reportedly less campy than its predecessors and uses thematic elements which will seem familiar to Battlestar Galactica fans.

For US viewers, Hulu will be streaming the show the day after it airs. Reviews are mixed. Wikipedia.

BSG Update

From TV Week re: BSG's next season:

* Will launch with Battlestar Galactica: Razor in November, a 2-hour movie documenting what happened to Pegasus when civilization fell.
* May be divided into two, 10 episode seasons, rather than a single, 20 episode season. If broken in half, the first group would air during the 1Q of 2008. The second would happen in either the 4Q of 2008 or the 1Q of 2009.
* Battlestar Galactica: Caprica may be getting a green light after all.

With “Battlestar” fans already waiting about a year for the return of the series -- not counting the two-hour “Razor” stand-alone movie coming this fall -- returning with only 10 episodes could spark a revolt.

Moore’s storyline also could make fans demand rapid closure, one person close to the project says, since “when people see the ending of the 10th episode, they’re gonna freak out.”

The final decision might not come until January. A key factor is what new shows are in the pipeline that could be paired with “Galactica” – and how much those shows will cost.

Also, the Battlestar Wiki reports that Nana Visitor will be in at least one Season 4 BSG episode.

Brits are less uptight than Americans.... "Since the British military began allowing homosexuals to serve in the armed forces in 2000, none of its fears — about harassment, discord, blackmail, bullying or an erosion of unit cohesion or military effectiveness — have come to pass, according to the Ministry of Defense, current and former members of the services and academics specializing in the military. The biggest news about the policy, they say, is that there is no news. It has for the most part become a non-issue."

And now.... a PSA

Attention BSG Production Staff and Actors:

STOP PLAYING WITH OUR MINDS!

Thank You.

Contrary to comments by Edward James Olmos (Adm. Adama) at the Saturn Awards on May 10, no end has been announced for the award-winning show. Battlestar Galactica is preparing to film its fourth season, one that will include 22 episodes, rather than the previously announced 13. "For those of you who have been paying attention over the years, this is not the first time Eddie has made an announcement about the possibility of the show's end," chuckled [executive producer David] Eick.

An interview with Mary McDonnell, Edward James Olmos and Ronald D. Moore on their reactions to the season finale of Battlestar Galactica. Contains Spoilers. If you're behind, don't read it!

Where do you think the show is headed?
[Edward James Olmos]: You're going to be very surprised, because I've gotten some inklings as to what [the writers are] thinking. I've come up with story ideas. I personally — this is not [from] any of the writers, but my thing — I wanted to come into [the present day], find Earth, cruise on top of it, see it for what it is, and as we're coming down to it, we're blown up, we're nuked. And then [someone says to] the President of the United States, which is [George W.] Bush, ''They've been taken care of. Thank God you saved the world again.'' And you turn, and you see who told him that, and it's one of the Cylons. [Laughs]

BSG Gag Reels

The Battlestar Galactica Season III Gag Reel. (Google Video / Uncensored / Contains S3 spoilers)
It's also been posted on YouTube here

Season I and II's gag reels are available on Google Video. Season I: Part I and Part II, which was on the S1 DVD set, and Season II: Part I & Part II. Most of these are terrible quality -- taken with a handheld of a screen at what I assume was a wrap party. (And of course, they all include more spoilers...)

"Caprica"

SCI FI Channel has announced the development of Caprica, a spinoff prequel of its hit Battlestar Galactica. “Caprica would take place more than half a century before the events that play out in Battlestar Galactica. The people of the Twelve Colonies are at peace and living in a society not unlike our own, but where high technology has changed the lives of virtually everyone for the better. But a startling breakthrough in robotics is about to occur, one that will bring to life the age-old dream of marrying artificial intelligence with a mechanical body to create the first living robot: a Cylon.”

The show development details were unveiled during an advertising meeting as part of SCI FI’s future plans. The announcement does not mean Caprica will definitely be produced or picked up, just that the channel’s execs are interested in the project. There is no confirmation whether the prequel would be a movie, mini-series or seasonal show.

More on Caprica from E! Online.

Caprica on BSG probably looks quite familiar to Vancouver residents.... :)
