Summary

Judd Apatow is an Emmy-award-winning screenwriter, producer and director who began his career as a stand-up comic. Finding difficulty performing his own jokes, he began writing for others including Roseanne Barr.

In 1985, Apatow moved from New York to Los Angeles and enrolled in USC’s screenwriting program. He left the school after two years and continued writing comedy.

After becoming friends with Ben Stiller, he was given the opportunity to write for The Ben Stiller Show where in 1992, he and the rest of the writing staff won an Emmy in spite of the show being cancelled the following year.

Comedian and actor Gary Shandling hired Apatow to write and produce for The Larry Sanders Show from 1993-1998 where he earned six Emmy nominations.

Other television credits include Freaks and Geeks, starring Spiderman’s James Franco, and Undeclared.

Through writing, directing and producing his films (including Anchorman; The Legend of Ron Burgundy, The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up) have earned over $700 million at the box office.

He is married to actress Leslie Mann and they have two daughters.
