リスのリッキー、ウサギのウーちゃん、クマのクーちゃんは、写真に書をのせます。

リッキーは、どんぐりや木の実を真上から撮ったマクロ写真。光る小さな実がぎゅっと集まっています。極細の面相筆を握り、写真の隙間を縫うように素早く筆を走らせます。黄金のインクで書かれた文字は——『充』。「小さな幸せを、たくさん“みたしたい”んだ」どんぐりフレームのアクリルキューブに収められます。

ウーちゃんの写真は、朝露と青空を見上げた静かな風景。長鋒の羊毛筆をたっぷりと墨で満たし、空の余白にふわりと『澄』と書いた。「遠くの音を聞き逃さないように、心も耳も“すんだ”ままでいたいの」パールホワイトとシルバーの文字が、朝露の光と溶け合い、フローティングフレームの中で漂っています。

クーちゃんの写真は、古木の樹皮を大胆に切り取った力強い一枚。特大の馬毛筆を振り下ろすと、朱色の太い線がはみ出す勢いで走り、『響』の一文字が浮かび上がった。「大地の強さに感謝して、揺るがない力を持ちたいんだ」古材の極太フレームは重厚です。

今日1月2日は、書初め。写真と書と願いがひとつになり、空気がすこし澄んだように感じられました。

When Photos Meet Words

Ricky the squirrel, Woo the rabbit, and Koo the bear are writing words on their favorite photos.

Ricky chose a close-up photo of acorns and nuts, taken from above. The tiny nuts are shining and gathered tightly together. He holds a very thin brush and moves it quickly between the spaces in the photo. With golden ink, he writes the word “充” (full). “I want to fill my year with many small happy things,” he says. His work is placed inside a clear acrylic cube with acorn decorations.

Woo’s photo shows a quiet sky and morning dew, seen from the grass. She fills a long soft brush with black ink and gently writes “澄” (clear) in the open sky. “I want my heart and ears to stay clear, so I can hear faraway sounds,” she says. The white and silver letters blend with the light of the dew and float inside a frameless display.

Koo’s photo is a strong close-up of old tree bark. He swings a huge brush made of horsehair, and bold red lines rush across the photo. The word “響” (echo) appears with power. “I want to be strong and thankful to the earth,” he says. His work is framed in thick old wood, heavy and full of presence.

Today is January 2nd, the day of kakizome, the first writing of the year. The photos, the words, and the wishes come together, and the air feels a little clearer.

森の初詣の願い事

リスのリッキー、ウサギのウーちゃん、クマのクーちゃんは、森の神社で初詣です。

リッキーは、「今年こそ、埋めたドングリの場所を、一箇所たりとも忘れません」
そう叫ぶと、しっぽをバサッと広げた。そこには“どんぐり保管マップ”が描かれていました。
「神さま、ぼくに記憶力アップと、努力を無駄にしない知恵をください」
忘れたドングリが芽を出して森が緑化するのは嬉しいけど、お腹が空くのはもっと困ります。

ウーちゃんは、「今年はね、怖い音に逃げるだけじゃなくて、この耳で“幸運の足音”も聞き分けます」
そう言うと、耳がアンテナのように左右に動き、遠くの音をキャッチする仕草をした。
「だから神さま、真実を聞き分ける耳と、チャンスに飛び込む勇気をください」

クーちゃんは、大きな布団を背負い、はちみつ壺を抱えて、「ぼくはね……ただ眠るんじゃない」
布団をバサッと広げる。「春に最強のパフォーマンスを出すために、質の高い冬眠と、最高の目覚めを極めます」
そして壺を掲げて叫ぶ。「神さま、安眠と、目覚めた時の爆発的パワーをください」

今日1月1日は、初詣。動物たちの願いは、初日の出の空へ昇っていきました。

Wishes at the Forest Shrine

Ricky the squirrel, Woo the rabbit, and Koo the bear are visiting the forest shrine for New Year’s prayers.

Ricky shouts, “This year, I won’t forget a single place where I buried my acorns!” He spreads out his tail with a big fwump. A “secret acorn map” is drawn on it. “Dear God, please give me better memory and the wisdom not to waste my hard work.” He’s happy when forgotten acorns grow into trees, but being hungry is a real problem.

Woo says, “This year, I won’t just run away from scary sounds. I’ll use these ears to hear the footsteps of good luck too!” Her ears move left and right like antennas, as if catching sounds from far away. “So please, God, give me ears that hear the truth, and courage to jump toward chances.”

Koo carries a big blanket on his back and holds a honey pot. “I’m not just going to sleep,” he says. He spreads the blanket wide. “I will master deep winter sleep and the best spring wake-up!” Then he lifts the pot and shouts, “Please, God, give me good sleep and explosive power when I wake up!”

Today is January 1st, New Year’s Day. The animals’ wishes rise gently into the sky with the first sunrise.

森のびっくり名人たち

リスのリッキー、ウサギのウーちゃん、クマのクーちゃんは、毎日の“当たり前”の中に、小さなびっくりを見つける名人です。

振動とリズムのプロ、リッキーは細い枝に飛び移ると、枝が「ボヨヨン」と揺れた。
「この揺れ、タイミングを合わせると、ほらっ——」
枝の揺れがどんどん大きくなり、最後には自分の身長の３倍も跳ね上がった。
「でもね、ちょっとズレると——」
わざとタイミングを外すと、枝はピタッと静止。

表面張力と光学に驚く、ウーちゃんは朝露を一粒、そっと葉っぱからすくい上げた。
「これ、ただの水じゃないの。」
水滴の中には、森の景色が逆さまに映り、しかもキラキラと光って、小さな宇宙のよう。
「丸いのはね、自分を一番小さくまとめようとする力が働くからなんだって。」

粘性と流体が気になる、クーちゃんは、壺からハチミツを垂らすと、糸のように落ちて——途中からクルクルと、とぐろを巻き始めた。
「水はバシャッて落ちるのに、ハチミツは“重ね着”みたいに積み重なるんだよ。」とぐろはまるで金色の塔。

今日12月31日は、寅彦忌。除夜の鐘を聞きながら、「来年も、ちゃんと驚けますように」と願いました。

The Forest’s Surprise Experts

Ricky the squirrel, Woo the rabbit, and Koo the bear are experts at finding little surprises in everyday things.

Ricky is a pro at bouncing and rhythm. When he jumps onto a thin branch, it goes “boing!” “If I match my timing just right—look!” The branch bounces bigger and bigger, and Ricky jumps three times higher than his own height! “But if I miss the timing—” He jumps off at the wrong moment, and the branch stops moving.

Woo is amazed by water and light. She gently lifts a drop of morning dew from a leaf. “Hey, this isn’t just water.” Inside the drop, the forest looks upside down, sparkling like a tiny world. “It’s round because it wants to be as small as it can be.”

Koo is curious about sticky things and flow. He pours honey from a pot, and it falls like a golden string. Then it starts to spin and swirl, making a spiral shape. “Water goes splash, but honey stacks up like layers of clothes!” The spiral looks just like a golden tower.

Today is December 31st, Terada Torahiko Day. As the temple bell rings, the three friends whisper, “Let’s keep finding surprises next year too.”

森の手づくり中華まん

リスのリッキー、ウサギのウーちゃん、クマのクーちゃんは、中華まんミュージアムへ、売り込みに出かけました。

リッキーの「木の実ざくざく！キャラメルクリスピーまん」。何層にも折り重ねたデニッシュ生地の中央に、キャラメルで絡めたナッツを山盛りにして置き、くるりと包み込み、どんぐり型に。蒸してから軽く揚げると、表面が「カリッ」、砕いたアーモンドが舞い落ちます。

ウーちゃんの「雪どけ純白！のび〜るお餅クリームまん」。求肥入りの白い生地をそっと広げ、特濃チーズクリームと苺のコンフィチュールを中心に。生地の端を持ち上げ、丸く閉じ、耳の部分になる小さな生地をちょこんと貼りつけると、雪うさぎのよう。低温でじっくり蒸し上げます。

クーちゃんの「特製！ハニー・ベジカリーまん」。ライ麦入りの茶色い生地を力強く広げ、ローストした根菜とひよこ豆のカレー餡をのせます。生地で包み込むとき、壺の形になるように底を丸く、上をきゅっとすぼめ、“フタ”のラインをつけます。蒸し上がると、フタの隙間からカレーがとろりと顔を出します。

今日12月30日は、中村屋の創業日。どれも温かくて、ちょっと笑えて、おいしそうでした。

Handmade Steamed Buns in the Forest

Ricky the squirrel, Woo the rabbit, and Koo the bear went to the Steamed Bun Museum to show their special buns.

Ricky’s bun is called “Crunchy Nuts! Caramel Crispy Bun.” He puts lots of caramel-covered nuts in the middle of a folded pastry dough, then wraps it into an acorn shape. After steaming and lightly frying it, the outside goes “crunch!” and crushed almonds fall like snow.

Woo’s bun is called “Snowy Soft! Stretchy Mochi Cream Bun.” She gently spreads white dough with mochi inside, then adds cheese cream and strawberry jam in the center. She wraps it into a round shape, adds tiny ears, and it looks like a snow rabbit. She steams it slowly to keep it soft and white.

Koo’s bun is called “Special! Honey Veggie Curry Bun.” He spreads brown rye dough and puts roasted vegetables and chickpea curry inside. He wraps it like a little pot, with a round bottom and a tight top, and adds a lid line. When it’s steamed, golden curry peeks out from the lid.

Today is December 30th, the birthday of Nakamuraya. All the buns were warm, a little funny, and looked super tasty.

森の福おせち

リスのリッキー、ウサギのウーちゃん、クマのクーちゃんは、福を呼ぶ「おせち」を考えます。

リッキーの「カリッと黄金！木の実のキャラメル田作り」。フライパンに小魚、くるみ、アーモンド、カシューナッツを投入、香ばしくロースト。「ここでメープルシロップをとろ〜り。醤油をちょっとだけ」。キャラメリゼして、熱いうちに飴が絡んだ小魚とナッツを、手早く一口サイズに丸めます。

ウーちゃんの「ひらひらリボンの紅白キャロット・ラペなます」。ピーラーで金時人参をすーっと薄く削り、大根も同じように削ると、赤と白のリボンがひらひら舞います。リボンを結び、柚子の皮をぱらりと散らします。オリーブオイルと白ワインビネガーを合わせたマリネ液をそっと注ぐと、柚子の香りがふわっと立ちのぼります。

クーちゃんの「とろ〜り蜂蜜と黒豆のどっさりあつあつ煮」。たっぷりの水に一晩つけて、ふっくらと戻った大粒の黒豆を鍋に入れます。そこへ蜂蜜をどぼどぼと豪快に注ぎ、塩をひとつまみ、そしてブランデーをほんの少し。「ここからが勝負。とろ火で丸一日コトコトだ」

今日12月29日は、福の日。福を呼ぶ「おせち」で、お正月を待ちます。

Forest Lucky Osechi

Ricky the squirrel, Woo the rabbit, and Koo the bear think about making “lucky osechi” for the New Year.

Ricky’s “Crispy Golden Nut Caramel Mix”  
Ricky puts small dried fish, walnuts, almonds, and cashew nuts into a frying pan and roasts them until they smell nice. “Now I pour maple syrup… and just a little soy sauce,” he says. He caramelizes everything, and while it is still hot, he quickly rolls the shiny nuts and fish into small bite‑size balls.

Woo’s “Red‑and‑White Ribbon Carrot Salad”  
Woo uses a peeler to slice the red carrot very thin, and then slices the white daikon the same way. Red and white ribbons flutter in the air. She ties the ribbons together and sprinkles a little yuzu peel on top. Then she gently pours in a marinade of olive oil and white wine vinegar. A soft yuzu smell rises into the air.

Koo’s “Warm Honey Black Beans”  
Koo puts big black beans—soaked in plenty of water overnight—into a pot. He pours in lots of honey, adds a pinch of salt, and just a little brandy. “This is the important part. We simmer it on low heat all day,” he says proudly.

Today is December 29th, the Day of Good Fortune.  
With their lucky osechi ready, the animals happily wait for the New Year to come.

森のシネマ考察会へようこそ

リスのリッキー、ウサギのウーちゃん、クマのクーちゃんは、“名作アニメ映画”を考察します。

最初に、「高い階段を駆け下りるシーン」について。

リッキーは、
「ここは僕の専門分野！あのガタガタの階段、垂直移動の動線としては満点だね。ち……いや、主人公の子の重心が高い！もっと腰を落として、爪を立てないと！」

ウーちゃんは、
「私は見てるだけで失神しそうだった。あんな目立つ場所を走るなんて……。私なら迷わず、ボイラー室にいそうな煤の精霊みたいな子たちと壁の隙間に潜り込んで一生出てこないよ。」

次は、「静かに近づく“黒い影”」について。

リッキーは、
「“溜め込みすぎ”だね。金なんて食べてもお腹は膨らまないのに。僕ならクルミを3000個ストックさせる。吐き出すのが泥じゃなくて種だったら、あの世界は今頃、豊かな森だよ。」

クーちゃんは、
「『え、え…』って食べ物を要求するところ、俺の冬眠明けそっくりなんだよな。でも風呂入りすぎだろ。野生の匂いが消えたら個性が死ぬぞ。」

今日12月28日は、シネマトグラフの日。映画の余韻と笑い声が、森にゆっくり響いた一日でした。

Welcome to the Forest Cinema Talk

Ricky the squirrel, Woo the rabbit, and Koo the bear talk about a “famous animated movie.”

First, the scene of running down the tall stairs.  
Ricky says, “This is my special field! Those shaky stairs are perfect for vertical movement. The main kid’s balance is too high! They should bend their knees more and use their claws!”

Woo says, “I almost fainted just watching it. Running in such a wide-open place… no way. If it were me, I’d hide with those little soot-like spirits near the boiler room and never come out.”

Next, the scene with the ‘quiet black shadow.’  
Ricky says, “That shadow keeps too much stuff. Eating gold won’t fill your stomach. If it were me, I’d make it store 3,000 walnuts. If it spat out seeds instead of mud, that world would be a rich forest by now.”

Koo says, “When it says ‘uh… uh…’ asking for food, it looks just like me after hibernation. But it takes too many baths. If you lose your wild smell, you lose your personality.”

Today is December 28th, Cinema Day. The movie’s afterglow and the animals’ laughter gently echoed through the forest.

森にひびく、ケーキの香り

リスのリッキー、ウサギのウーちゃん、クマのクーちゃんは、フルーツケーキも好きです。

リッキーの「森の貯蔵庫ケーキ」。ローストしたナッツとベリーを、小さなキューブ型の生地にぎゅっと押し込みます。仕上げにメープル・リキュールをひとしずく。焼き上がったケーキは手のひらサイズ。側面にはナッツがぎっしり、天面には赤と青のベリーがきらり。

ウーちゃんの「白いボタニカル・ドライケーキ」。バターと砂糖をボウルで混ぜ、ドライアップルとレモンピールを加え、低温のオーブンでゆっくり焼き上げます。ハーブの香りを移したシロップをたっぷり染み込ませ、雪のように白いアイシングをかけた長方形のケーキは、表面にドライフルーツが花びらのように並びます。

クーちゃんの「琥珀色のヴィンテージ・大樹ケーキ」。レーズン・イチジク・プルーンを深い香りのブランデーに数日漬け込みます。ふっくらした果実をスパイス生地に混ぜ込み、焼き上げます。ブランデーを塗り込み、冷暗所でじっくり熟成させます。完成したケーキは、切り株そっくりの円形ケーキ。

今日12月27日は、フルーツケーキの日。森の空気が、甘くゆっくり揺れました。

The Scent of Cake Echoes in the Forest

Ricky the squirrel, Woo the rabbit, and Koo the bear all love fruitcake.

Ricky’s “Forest Pantry Cake”  
He presses roasted nuts and berries tightly into small cube-shaped batter. He adds just a drop of maple liqueur. The baked cake is the size of his little paw. Nuts cover the sides, and red and blue berries shine on the top.

Woo’s “White Botanical Dry Cake”  
She mixes butter and sugar in a bowl, then adds dried apple and lemon peel. She bakes it slowly in a low-temperature oven. She soaks it with herb-scented syrup and covers it with snow-white icing. The long, white cake has dried fruits arranged like flower petals on top.

Koo’s “Amber Vintage Tree Cake”  
He soaks raisins, figs, and prunes in rich-smelling brandy for several days. He mixes the plump fruit into spiced batter and bakes it. He brushes it with more brandy and lets it rest in a cool, dark place. The finished cake looks just like a round tree stump.

Today is December 27th, Fruitcake Day. The air in the forest swayed gently with a sweet scent.
