Pablo Roy-Rojas
I am a Ph.D. student in Political Science at York University, in Toronto. I specialize in International Political Sociology and Political Theory. My research interests include globalization, migration, and nationalism. Previously, I trained in Sociology (B.A., M.A.) at Université Laval, in Quebec City. Thanks to my multidisciplinary background, I have mastered a range of methods and approaches that I use in my work. For instance, in 2022, I directed a research project on behalf of the Confederation of National Trade Unions (CSN), acted as an expert for the Administrative Labour Tribunal concerning the right to strike of public transport workers in Quebec City, and worked as a research assistant for Laval’s Faculty of Medicine, investigating health inequalities experienced by immigrant women in Canada. My research contributes both to academia and beyond, having been published in journals such as Aspects Sociologiques (2023) and by the Ligue des droits et libertés (2019), and have been funded by bodies outside of my field, like by the Observatory of Cultural Mediations (INRS). I regularly present my work at academic conferences (upcoming: Rethinking Gramsci 2024, Annual International Conference on Gramsci’s Legacy, 8-10 May, in Montreal). My current doctoral research focuses on immigration detention and border securitization in the Americas.
