Finland set for sunny, mild weekend

"I wouldn't be surprised if the sunny weather continues well into next week," said Yle meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander.

Weather forecast for Thursday (torstai), Friday (perjantai), Saturday (lauantai) and Sunday (sunnuntai).

Finland will be warm and sunny for the rest of the week, according to Yle meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander.

Thursday will be sunny in most areas, but strong winds are making conditions feel cooler than they actually are — particularly in Northern Finland.

On Friday, temperatures will gradually rise while winds will subside. Friday morning will likely still be chilly in many areas, due to overnight frosts.

However, the temperature is expected to reach almost 10 degrees Celsius in a number of areas during the day on Friday. In the north, the day's high temperature will be around five degrees.

On Saturday, the temperature will rise above 10 degrees in even more parts of the country, according to Lohtander.

He added that a high pressure system is expected to continue.

"I wouldn't be surprised if the sunny weather continues well into next week," Lohtander said.

Despite the relatively mild daytime conditions, temperatures will likely dip below zero throughout the weekend in many areas.

Conditions are dry in most of the country, and no rain is expected in the coming days.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute has issued wildfire warnings over the weekend, starting on Saturday in eastern areas.

The wildfire warning area will grow on Sunday. By Monday, the warning includes virtually all of Finland, with the exception of Lapland.
