A coach carrying a group of tourists, including a number of Finnish citizens, has been involved in a traffic accident in Egypt.

According to local media reports, the collision between the bus and a truck occurred just north of the popular seaside resort town of Hurghada, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to at least 36 others.

Tabloid newspaper Iltalehti reported that seven of the injured are Finnish citizens, but based on the currently available information, the two deceased passengers are not believed to be from Finland.

Media outlets from other countries, including Azerbaijan and Russia, have reported that the injured passengers include 27 Russians, seven Finns, three Egyptians, and two Lithuanian nationals.

Jussi Tanner, the head of consular services at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, confirmed to Yle that a number of Finnish citizens were on board the bus at the time of the accident.

He added that, based on the ministry's current understanding of the situation, the injuries sustained by the Finnish citizens are not thought to be serious.

The tour coach is reported to have been travelling on a highway between Hurghada and Egypt's capital city Cairo, although its exact destination is not currently known. Many tour companies, including Finnish operators, use coaches to run excursions to other tourist destinations.
