Iconic Finnish design firm Marimekko has decided on sending home 35 employees. The company said in a stock exchange release that talks on restructuring and outsourcing covered some 55 positions, of which at least 35 would be eliminated.

It estimated that 15 people would be re-assigned and another five jobs would be removed by way of other internal arrangements.

According to Marimekko, the aim of the restructuring talks was to secure annual savings of 2.4 million euros. It revealed that the job cuts and other measures to improve operational efficiency would save an estimated 2.1 million euros annually and projected that the impact of the programme would be visible from the second quarter of this year.

The company said that all of the employees affected by the redundancies work at its Herttoniemi headquarters and textile printing operation in Helsinki. It said that the restructuring talks did not affect retail staff.
