The Petäjävesi asylum-seeker reception centre in Central Finland was the target of vandalism late on Wednesday night when three home-made petrol bombs were thrown at the door of the building, breaking a window.
The Rescue Services were alerted, though nobody was injured in the attack. The outer hallway of the building sustained some damage from the resulting smoke.
Asylum-seeker families live in the Petäjävesi centre. There were 80 migrants in the building at the time of the bombing, half of whom are children. Because of this, police are investigating the incident as attempted aggravated vandalism.
"This looks to me like some kind of act of protest. The police are worried about the situation," detective chief inspector Veli-Pekka Välisaari says.
Security camera footage and other evidence is being utilised as part of the investigation.
Man arrested
Police have apprehended a 25-year-old local man in connection with the incident. Police say that the man will be interrogated later today Wednesday relating to both last night's and last year's arson attempts.
This is the second firebomb attack on the same building. The first one was carried out before the structure started to be used as a reception centre.
