The vacant Runosmäki School in the southwest city of Turku was the target of attempted arson on Christmas Day, reports the Southwestern Finland Police Department.

The police say an unknown assailant tried to set fire to a wall of the school at 8 am on December 25. The assailant fled the scene before the police arrived.

The school was meant to start housing asylum seekers soon, but is standing empty for the time being. Police say no one’s life was endangered by the arson attempt.

Someone tried to torch the vacant school already once this year, in the early autumn. This first arson attempt targeted the door of the facility.
