Government wins confidence vote

Parliament gave the ruling coalition a vote of confidence on Wednesday after opposition charges of a lack of transparency in the government's drafting of legislation.

Parliament voted 126-56 in support of the government, with 17 registered absences.

The vote came following an interpellation by the opposition Left Alliance and Green League criticizing the government for a lack of transparency in drafting legislation and questioning the accuracy of the information presented to Parliament.

The opposition move was spurred by inaccurate information provided to MPs by Finance Minister Alexander Stubb about government’s now-buried proposal to reform the securities depository system, when he said late last month that the measure had more support from experts than it actually received.
