In a statement issued Wednesday, the union representing pilots and flight attendants announced that it would embark on industrial action to support postal workers disputing terms and conditions of work.

The Finnish Cabin Crew Union SLSY said it had filed a notice with the state conciliator informing her of its intention to instruct members to refuse overtime work. The overtime ban will be in force from next Monday to Friday, and the union said it’s prepared to extend the ban if necessary.

The union said that it hopes that plans to boycott overtime work will help speed up negotiations between postal worker and employer representatives.

SLSY also noted that it is prepared to adopt other measure if there is no progress in the negotiations involving postal workers and employers.

The Postal Workers Union and the employer organisation Palta are due to resume talks Thursday.

Other labour organisations have also indicated their readiness to support the postal workers by way of sympathy strikes. They include the Transport Workers’ Union AKT, the Aviation Workers’ Union and the Finnish Seafarers’ Union.
