Opposition gives government ‘F’ for economic policy

An interpellation filed in Parliament by an opposition group claims that government’s four-year program has proven to be hollow, and that the administration has not accomplished its most important objectives.

According to the interpellation, government’s economic and industrial policies have failed. The motion was filed by a group of lawmakers representing the opposition Finns Party and the two-man Left Alliance parliamentary group.

The first signatory to the interpellation, Finns Party MP Jari Lindström, said that the final impetus for the motion was the government’s decision to decline a 50 million euro loan to the STX shipyard in Turku to secure a luxury liner order.

“This doesn’t involve only STX, but government’s entire industrial policy,” Lindström added.

The opposition MPs say that the entire bottom has fallen out of the government programme.

"When we examine the success of the government’s economic and industrial policies, we have to admit the fact that it has in fact failed. The central goals have not been achieved," lawmakers said in the interpolation.

Government has two weeks to respond to the motion.
