The king and queen are attending the event as individuals and have no official programme in the city, according to Turku officials. King Carl Gustav, a scout since 1956, has chaired the foundation for over three decades.
On Saturday, a model scout camp Varvintori in Turku is open to visitors from 9am to 6pm.
This is the first visit by the World Scout Foundation leadership to Finland, which is home to some 60,000 scouts. The Turku region has the densest concentration of scouts in the world, with about 10 percent of the area’s 7 to 17 year-olds belonging to a scout troop.
This summer, Finnish scouts hosted the international Roverway event, which attracted some 4,000 scouts from around the world to camp in Finland's forests.
