Emergency Response Centre Administration Admits Ambulance Went to Wrong Location at Airport

The delay in the arrival of an ambulance at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport on Wednesday resulted from error on the part of the Emergency Response Centre. The ambulance had been called to care for a passenger who had fallen ill during a flight, but it went to the wrong gate.

An Austrian Airlines flight en route from Tokyo to Vienna made an unscheduled landing in Helsinki Wednesday afternoon when a passenger, a 90 year old woman, fell ill. The ambulance did not arrive at the plane until nearly half an hour after the plane had landed.

The woman died at the airport.

While the plane was waiting for the ambulance to show up, the ambulance was waiting about a kilometre away for the plane.

Adding to the confusion was another medical transport taking place at the airport at the same time.
