The Finnish government has launched an online discussion forum on long-term climate policy in step with the UN climate change conference opening in Bali on Monday. The otakantaa.fi-website or "take a stand" site is a government-run online discussion forum set up to encourage citizens to share their views on topical issues under government review. The government is seeking to attract ideas from a broad public and interest group base, which can be drawn on in the government's plans on climate and energy policy. The discussion is open at from December 3rd through December 19th at otakantaa.fi.
Themes arising from the online debates will then serve as a base for further discussion topics.
The final report will encompass Finland's climate and energy policy through the year 2050.
The two-week United Nations climate change conference, taking place on the Indonesian island of Bali, will be attended by thousands of representatives from 190 countries. Delegates will attempt to agree on measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and to launch negotiations on a new treaty to replace the Kyoto Climate Treaty that expires in 2012.
