Police Crack Down on Speeding

Finnish police are cracking down on the enforcement of speed limits in traffic this week. Excessive speed is seen to be the single most important factor increasing traffic fatalities. The move is part of a European-wide campaign.

The campaign is a joint effort of the European Traffic Police Network TISPOL.

Driving speed has been found to be the single most important factor in increasing the number of traffic deaths. Police estimate that nearly 6,000 lives would be saved each year if speed limits were observed.

Excessive speed has been found to be a more serious threat on highways than driving while intoxicated, or not wearing safety belts.
