The investigation centres on contributions made by Nova Group to Kanerva’s 60th birthday celebration. The real estate firm contributed some 17,000 euros to the event.

Police are trying to determine if Nova sought to influence land use plans in Southwest Finland. Kanerva has served as Chairman of the Board of the Regional Council of Southwest Finland.

Kanerva says he has never discussed such plans with the directors of Nova Group. According to information obtained by YLE, police have been investigating Kanerva since last year.
