Rents still climbing in Finnish cities

Rents continue to rise in nearly all of Finland's urban growth centres. Today renters looking for a one-bedroom apartment in Helsinki can expect to pay around one thousand euros a month.

Figures released by Realia Management on Thursday indicate that the monthly rent on a typical two-room flat in central Helsinki has risen by 9.6 percent within the past year, from 900 to 980 euros. In neighbouring Vantaa, the rise was even sharper, about 11 percent for two-room apartments and 17.1 percent for those with three rooms.

Apartment rents have also climbed in Lahti, Turku and Oulu. The real estate agency attributes the rise to higher demand and maintenance costs.

Meanwhile rents remained mostly stable in Tampere, Jyväskylä and Kuopio.
