Police have evicted a group of Irish travelers from the Pukinmäki district of Helsinki. Their caravans were camped without permission on land owned by the municipality.

The families had brought between 20 and 25 caravans to Pukinmäki. They had apparently come to Helsinki from Järvenpää, a commuter town north of the capital.

According to the police, Irish travelers are now an annual phenomenon, and they can be seen every summer all over Finland. Some of them come to Finland for work and some as tourists.
