New Spring Heat Record in Åland

Election day weather set a new heat record in the Åland islands town of Jormala Sunday, where temperatures reached a balmy 16.6 degrees Celsius.

The previous high for the day came from the Helsinki metropolitan area, where a high of 15.7 degrees Celsius was recorded.

According to readings taken from the Kumpula weather station, a high of 15.7 degrees Celsius was recorded Sunday afternoon.

The mercury also topped the 15-degree level in Espoo, Vantaa, Porvoo and Hyvinkää.

The previous spring time high this year was set Saturday afternoon in Hämeenlinna, when the temperature reached 15.2 degrees.
