Survey Raises Construction Safety Concerns

Finland's construction sites are among the most unsafe in the Nordic region, says a new study.

Finnish building sites are also the untidiest, according to a study by two international construction firms, NCC and Skanska, published in Monday's Helsingin Sanomat newspaper.

However it did show that there has been some improvement here in recent years, as Finnish builders pay more attention to safety issues.

Finnish construction industry executives say they believe that safety has been ingrained in working culture longer in the other countries surveyed, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

The survey studied equipment, lighting, safety devices, waste disposal and other factors at building sites.
