A group showing sympathies to extremist far-right ideology, including at least one police officer, will not be charged with preparing to commit violent crimes.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Wednesday that a preliminary investigation did not find sufficient evidence to charge a far-right group with preparing to commit violent crimes.

The law enforcement agency said the focus of its investigation was centred on group of nine suspects which had become united by far-right ideology. Communication within the group was found to have been of a racist nature and included discussion of inciting civil war or revolution, the bureau added.

The suspects in the investigation were all middle-aged Finnish men living in the Uusimaa region.

Some members of the group are still suspected of firearms offences, among other crimes, and the preliminary investigation is still ongoing.
