A policeman has gone on trial in Hämeenlinna, southern Finland, over the accidental shooting of a fellow officer.
As proceedings began at Kanta-Häme District Court on Thursday, the prosecutor called for at least 70 day-fines for careless use of a firearm, aggravated injury and negligent dereliction of official duties.
The incident took place at Hämeenlinna police station in March 2017.
According to charges read out in court, a senior constable who was training in the use of force caused injury due to aggravated negligence.
The accident occurred after a training session, when guns used in the session had been switched back from their safety setting to the regular on-duty setting.
The trainer then began to present a situation, during which the gun went off. It passed through the elbow of a policeman who had been taking part in the class, and also grazed his side of his chest.
The defendant has admitted to causing injury, but denies that it was aggravated.
