In the wake of corrupt activities by some leaders in Africa and the world at large, their extrava... more In the wake of corrupt activities by some leaders in Africa and the world at large, their extravagant assets in foreign lands and fattened offshore accounts after their prosecution has become the focus of recent discussions. The success of the modern legal framework has made it possible for corrupt leaders to be arrested and prosecuted. This has resulted in assets of such leaders being seized and accounts being frozen by legitimate court orders. This paper highlights the legal procedures that govern the return of assets and wealth acquired through corrupt means on both the international and domestic fronts. Not doing away with the challenges and hindrances to this honourable act of returning the wealth of mostly developing nations to them, the paper makes use of relevant case studies as it addresses the hurdles to this effect in modern contexts. The essence of this concept, which is more often than not philanthropically motivated, has however not seen much change as modern companies due to benevolence and obligation under the law have been faithful to the cause of supporting development in their localities and countries. The influence of time and globalization on concepts and theories of humanity has been no different from corporate social responsibility. Over the years we have witnessed how this concept has metamorphosed to suit the changing demands of states especially those categorised as developing countries. This academic piece highlights the developments of corporate social responsibility within legal statutes and also takes a look at current practices of the concept in developing countries within the main regions of Latin America, Asia and Africa. This legal perspective presents a whole new front to enable efficient championing of the corporate social responsibility course.

Ghana and Nigeria are economic power houses in the Africa, and on several occasions these two countries have set the pace for development initiatives for other countries in Africa. The need for this review has been driven by the lasting impact and effective progression of concepts established and entrenched by law. By previewing some implicit and explicit laws surrounding corporate social responsibility on the international and domestic levels of both countries the paper duly makes mention of the problems hindering the progress of the concept and how they can be tackled.
