Who are you?
I’m a translator from TV-Nihon and I started out as a timer working for them. I also timed Fiveman and Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle: NEO for G.U.I.S. back in 2013 but none of the episodes I timed actually got released since they went inactive right after.
I always wanted to be able to watch Ultraman Dyna, my childhood hero, which prompted me to learn Japanese in the hope that I would be able to sub it myself one day. I started by subbing Keibuho Yabe Kenzou 2, Kamen Rider Super-1, and Kamen Rider. At first I didn’t do too well and got heavily criticized by the community, but I eventually got better at it. Finally, I achieved my dream of subbing Ultraman Dyna with the help of TV-Nihon.
So far, I have 3.5 years of experience with the Japanese language, and passed the December 2019 JLPT N1 test.
What does XIG stand for?
eXpanded Interceptive Guardians. I picked the name because I’m a big fan of the Ultraman Gaia series.
Why are your stuff labeled as SXIG then?
When I originally started, I used the XIG tag. But I overestimated my ability to translate and ended up with a huge mess. Eventually when I got better, I started using SXIG, or Super XIG, to differentiate my new releases from my old ones.
The “Super” is a reference to how GUTS in Ultraman Tiga became Super GUTS in Ultraman Dyna.
I’ve done a quick check on my Kamen Rider release, which hasn’t been redone yet, and found that it’s still pretty okay. Maybe when I find time next time, I’ll redo it with better translations.
What languages do you know?
English, Japanese, and some Mandarin.
Can you sub this series?
Feel free to request anything to be subbed. But take note that I’ll only sub something if I’m interested in it, if I feel like it, and if I have the time.
However, if you pay me, that’s another story *wink wink.
