Studio McVey & Upcoming Tutorials

Studio McVey Logo

Mike McVey is a name that will be familiar with miniature fanatics from his work with Games Workshop from back in the mid to late 90s. He has since started his own studio with (his wife?) Ali McVey! Their… work… is… sick. As a nascent sculptor I look at the what they create and am very inspired! Their characters are very creative, and beautifully executed. Much of what you see in the miniatures industry (while MUCH better than in any time in the past) lacks a good sense of composition, and design. The McVeys do not suffer from this problem in my opinion. Check it out! [link to Studio McVey]

Coming Soon…

I have received some great subject suggestions from some of the folks on the Heelanhammer SAWC forums for sculpting tutorials! Coming soon will be a series of new sculpting tutorials based on these suggestions. These will be posted in my articles section [Hobby Articles Section] in the not too distant future.

‘Video’ Painting Tutorials

I am starting to see some great painting videos online lately. Some fantastic ones are on ‘Watching Paint Dry’, and I highly recommend checking them out. Doing video, or rich media tutorials on sculpting is something that I have thought about on several occasions, and if I acquire a new camera, I may well do just that.

Brushthralls going away?

It sure seems that way. Brushthralls is a collective of very talented miniature painters who’s site has provided some amazing tutorials, and inspiration for the masses. Their focus has been on Warmachine miniatures, and had a relationship with Privateer Press for some time. They don’t go into to much detail as to why they are ‘retiring’, I have no idea what the big ‘C’ is. Take a look at their site while it is still up, especially their excellent tutorial section. They will be missed.

Flames of War page reorganization

One of the first posts that was created for this blog was a page that had a tutorial on painting DAK vehicles for the WWII table top game Flames of War. I have decided to use this page as a holding area for any articles that I create regarding painting, modeling for, or playing Flames of War. The original Painting Afrikakorps article is the first entry into this section of the site. Future articles will include more painting step by steps, as well as tutorials on sculpting, and making terrain.
