English is full of “lexical gaps,” words that are implied to exist but don’t, because we borrowed a bunch of words from Latin but not other, related words. Somebody made a chart to show it↓
I love how Navajo is so averse to loanwords that they make their own words even for proper nouns. “What’s Japan? Oh you mean squinty eyed people land.”
My view of who is eligible for immigration into the United States is based on The Potable Water Question: This is the map of the world from nations the CDC said Americans can safely drink the water if they visit (Green). Red is where the CDC says it's not safe to drink.
