When i finally confided my self harm to my previous therapist years ago, shaking and crying in pure shame in her office, she looked at me for a sec, then said "A lot of people your age do that, you're not special."
It scared me out of asking for help for years to come
I think therapists should all be a lot harder on people and tell them things like “you need to grow up” and “your own actions are making your life worse”
I met my gf's parents once when she moved in with me, and ended up confronting her dad about him misgendering her. He told me to "respect my house rules" and I said "What have you done to deserve respect? Because ever since I got here I've seen you do nothing but disrespect her!"
I came out purely out of spite! My mormon parents read my sister's journal, found she was bi, and made her cry. So I bought dollar store rainbow decorations and set up a surprise party for when they woke up the next day. Don't like having one gay kid? Congrats now you have two :)
Yesterday the 70yo attorney I work for asked me if I had any other pronouns than they/them, bc they/them was just so hard for him. I told him in that case I prefer he/him...and he has been flawlessly using he/him for me?? No stuttering over it or anything, he actually meant it 😳
Should therapists be honest? Yes. Was her statement correct? Yes, a lot of ppl struggle with self harm. However, that insensitive way of putting it ended up causing literal scars. There's no harm in being tactful and thoughtful with the truth
As a recovered anorexic, I really really hate people criticizing this pic for being "body checking" or "thinspo," like no, I have actually reached a point where I have a fairly normal relationship with eating. Being told my body is bad to show, after gaining so much weight hurts!
