One underreported element of these protests is that many of them are occurring at schools with ostensibly the best journalism programs/schools in the country: USC, UT Austin, Emerson, UNC, Columbia, etc. Just look at all the cameras in this video!

BREAKING: Students have taken to the streets! Hundreds of students are now blocking the intersection of Grove and College chanting “WHOSE STREETS? OUR STREETS!” and singing. This is in direct protest of their peers at the Yale divestment encampment being arrested minutes ago.

BREAKING: Police have flooded the encampment and given the warning, banging tents as they entered. Students have locked arms around the flagpole, signaling their willingness to be arrested. The crowd, several of whom are in tears, have begun singing “We shall not be moved.”

The first of the Yale students arrested today has been released and just gave a speech to the crowd, met with some of the loudest cheering I’ve heard in the last three days. 47 students were arrested, according to organizers. “For our friends, we shall not be moved,” they sing.

As an author of this, I want to emphasize we wrote this thinking of the journalists in Gaza, of whom Israel has murdered over 175. We don’t support Trump. But The Nation’s endorsement of the woman brazenly financing these executions doesn’t represent us. So we are speaking out.
