There's a kind of programmer who gets a kick out of indecipherable disgusting hacks that run lightning fast, and a kind of programmer who enjoys code a sedated toddler could understand, and an unbridgeable chasm between them

We need the programming version of this to whip out when c programmers start getting obnoxious

By asking that question, the employer is committing the sin of being unable to talk and think like a normal human in a social setting. The answer is obviously "no-one wants to work at McDonald's for the career opportunities. I want money".

People should be far less tolerant of dishonesty, and the first step to achieving that is to stop requiring it. The benefits of a high trust society are enormous.

idk I don't feel it's my responsibility to assuage someone else's neuroticism by being super chipper all the time. Like, just make the reasonable assumption that I'm saying it because I want you to have fun.

People who haven't had a religious upbringing but are vaguely spiritual really seem to fail to appreciate the extent to which mainstream religion genuinely and literally believes its doctrines.

It's so obvious that it's a stupid fucking question to ask, which would make me question the social skills of anyone who asked it. The fact that applicants are expected to give a different answer to the obvious and true one just makes it worse.

The employer could easily come up with a question that tests whether the employee has normal conversational abilities that doesn't create pressure to bullshit.

Have you considered that there might be better ways to check whether someone can handle customers than asking them to please lie to you?
