This is a book I shared with my parents when I came out to them at the age of 17. We’re constantly told being trans today is like being gay in the 80s/90s. I’d like to share some advice from the book. How similar is this is to what the LGBTQ+ sector says to today’s teens? …🧵

My parents told a hotel I was 9, so I could stay for free. They also mentioned it was my birthday (part of the discount negotiations). On arrival, the hotel surprised us with a cake, with a big “9” on it, & a team rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’. Cringiest 14th birthday ever.

I heard a person screaming near our office today. When I went out to help, it was a young woman, around 17/18yo, who was extremely distressed about the service she was getting from a support agency based near to us. Part of her complaint was that staff kept calling her ‘she’,

Blocking a child’s puberty based on their self-diagnosis and without proper support is not love. Teaching a young person that they can expect to have every aspect of their personality and identity validated by everyone else around them is not love. 3/

If you think I am “down on trans people”, you’re not listening to what I, and many others, are saying. Lying to people, pretending that people can actually change sex, is not love. Failing to give people basic standards of medical care is not love. 2/

I find it exhausting that university applicants now tend to bring their parents with them to university open days (generally encouraged to do so by the universities). But, while I was delivering a recent training course to one university team, one of the participants explained

Men who rape women will be recorded by Police Scotland as male. The amount of effort, from people - mostly women, and women not paid a penny for this work - across Scotland, that had to go into getting a well-paid, senior police officer to say these words is absolutely insane.

I just spoke to @EdinburghUni Security, who confirmed that it was the University that erected barriers around the trans rights activists preventing people from entering the venue “in order to protect the protesters”. The mismanagement is quite incredible.
