Huge fan of robot & love doing RALP/partial nx but agree modern Uro Onc needs training in complex open sx (redos, ext LOA, re-diversions, hi level thrombus, large masses, complex PC RPLNDs) Who will do in future? Early Gen surg training won’t help. Need to train future fellows.
The robot has taken over urologic cancer surgery in many training environments...open sx and re-operative sx is becoming a lost art. think we either need open fellowships or more time in general surgery moving forward? @uroegg @ZacharySmithMD @theVig245 @siadaneshmand @PearceMD
