Dozens of young children are being held at Manston detention camp in Kent. Mothers, fathers, children and babies from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere. We went today and heard them chanting for their freedom. This is persecution. FREE THEM AND CLOSE IT DOWN.

Manston is a concentration camp. Interning people there illegally is a political decision taken by Suella Braverman and the Home Office. The childrens’ cries of “freedom” and “we need your help” are a haunting indictment of the barbaric British border regime.

NEW: Detainees at Manston camp are being marched around under guard. Make no mistake, this is a prison camp where vulnerable people are being degraded and dehumanised. We captured this video yesterday.

700 new people arrived at Manston yesterday according to Kent Police because of the petrol bombing in Dover, and the BBC reports that numbers have reached 4,000. The max capacity of the site is 1,600. This is a humanitarian catastrophe.

They said conditions were “not nice” and that some of them were getting sick. They said there are no doctors. No lawyers. We asked them how long they’d been there: 3 days, 20 days, 30 days, 40 days.

Through one of the gated entrances to the camp, we saw a father walking around with his faughter inside a cage, unable to leave. And we saw piles of blue bags containing the belongings confiscated from the detained people upon arrival.

The camp is highly securitised and isolated - surrounded by fences, police and security personnel. Mitie - known for managing violent detention centres - runs the camp, while other companies such as MCT - known for brutalising children in youth jails - provide security.

We arrived outside the camp and saw people - men, women, children - behind the barbed wire fences. Security guards ordered them to go inside. The children ran away from them and crawled through a fence to be heard.
