Apple's new external link rules only apply to apps "on the United States storefront", which still restricts developers--even us in the US--from communicating to the oft-international consumers of our globally-available apps. I hope @TimSweeneyEpic brings this back to court, ASAP.

By limiting these changes to US storefront only, devs have complexity of supporting different systems/implementations for different storefronts - so once again Apple ends up with a significant disincentive to take advantage of the rulings against them.

As things continue to heat up on the AI safety front this month, I keep thinking of the already-long talk I gave just a few weeks ago at @CalHacks on "the many security concerns and ethical considerations of AGI" and lament just how much there is to cover.

I had a surreal experience yesterday with the earthquake that hit SoCal (yes: during the tropical storm); I was listening to @krisangelis live streaming (from a winery up North) and it was while she was singing her song Earthquake that we had one for real!

Because I'm a bit "eccentric", every single one of my tweets--well, with a few mistakes ;P--was exactly the maximum length allowed by Twitter (which isn't always 280/140 characters, due to hyperlinks)... I see Threads supports 500?! I might stick with 280, to allow cross-posting.

Out of curiosity, what would you actually want me to tweet about? I recently (finally) got verified, I think the 240-character update from a few years ago makes it more fun, I actually kind of like the app now, and people shout "eta wen" at me less, so I am trying to use it more.

On iOS 15.3-ish, Apple switched from using a 10-day forecast from @weatherchannel to an in-house solution they purchased with Dark Sky; I don't know what statistics they are using, but I'd think the prior on it suddenly being 103 in Santa Barbara next week should be quite low ;P.
Apple Weather on iOS 16 for Santa Barbara, showing a 10-day forecast with gradually increasing temperatures through the next week, culminating in a sudden increase from a high of 84 degrees a week from now to a shocking range--both wide and extremely high--of 62 to 103 the very next day.
