It's now 2024 and I've been tweeting once a week for a couple years. Nowadays it's mostly anti-momfluencer content, stuff I've made or written (sewing, hardware, wikipedia articles), and things I'm nerding about (making any kind of system more efficient)

In '92, the APA advised parents to put babies to sleep on their back instead of their bellies. This saved 1000s of babies from SIDS annually. But, babies sleep better on their bellies. I JUST WANNA KNOW -- How many hrs of parental sleep is lost per baby life saved? (1/36)

He put his regular bike in the cargo bucket of the e-bike, and the cops went with him for a little bit to make sure he was able to get home safe. We got home from the park at the same time that he got home with our bike!!

We will return the loaner bike to the lovely family that lent it to us, and take our recovered bike to The New Wheel for service. Thank you so much everyone for your support, advice, and encouragement!!! 💖💖💖

Anyways, moral of the story is: If you're a thief, don't take a cargo bike!!! The people of San Francisco will work together to recover it. If you have a bike you love, put an airtag on it! Sometimes if it's stolen it's not moved that far. I'm gonna put 2 airtags on mine.

regrets: 1. not putting an airtag on it 2. not using a U lock. i'm bad at parking the bike but someone pointed out i could use the folding lock to lock the bike to the post and a U lock to lock the bike to itself 3. not sticker bombing it so that it's more recognizable

We picked up the loaner bike today and I asked, do you want a deposit? My driver's license...? And they said no, we trust you. We love our cargo bike too and we know you'll treat it like your own. We just need it back when school starts in August. And they gave me the keys.

The cops came in 10 minutes. He gave them the bike key, and the police went into the encampment and asked if the bike belonged to anyone there. Nobody claimed ownership so they took the ebike back to my husband and confirmed that his key fit!!

First, my tweet about the bike went viral, and someone who lives a few blocks away emailed me: they have the same bike and they are going away for the summer, and would I like to borrow their bike?

already made a police report. going to call the police investigation line tomorrow and see if they can get any camera footage from businesses near the theft. also monitoring craigslist, fb marketplace, offerup for it. let me know if you have any tips.

As far as we can tell, pieced together from someone who saw the theft and reported it on nextdoor, and the sighting of the bike today, what happened was that after our hefty Abus lock was cut through, the thief dragged the bike, with its wheel lock still engaged, 1.5 blocks over

My husband was already in the area biking around looking for the cargo bike and he followed Melissa's tip and yup, there it was, in the middle of a small encampment. He called the non-emergency SFPD number and stayed one block away, keeping an eye on the bike while waiting.
