    Rail station lift reliability and entrapment response times improved, our latest stats show. From Oct 2025 to Mar 2026, total lift faults were down 1% on the previous 8-13 rail periods. With more lifts in use (1,403 +52), the fault rate fell 4%. dataportal.orr.gov.uk/statistics/pas…

    The faults leaving lifts out of service for over a week halved, compared to the same periods the previous year. Average repair time fell 21% to 21.3 hours. Wear and tear accounted for over half of lift faults.

    Entrapments of over 75 minutes fell by 36%, compared to the same periods the previous year, while the average response time to entrapments improved by 9%.

    Passenger rail journeys are at their highest annual level since 1920. Between April 2025 and March 2026, there were 1.83bn journeys - up 6% on last year and above the recent high of 1.75bn in April 2018 to March 2019. More: dataportal.orr.gov.uk/statistics/usa…
