I ♥ science & compiled, statically-typed programming languages! I dislike slop in all forms, including slop thinking. Views are my own, but are obviously right.

Thanks, @Google, but I already have this feature. It's called "tabs" and they make me feel plenty guilty already.

Data available upon request to the authors is soooo 2022. This is how we roll in 2023 - the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

It is hard to overstate how impressive this is once you recognize this is a single-author paper from a high school student!

I'm 38 and I still have dreams about being unprepared for a test that tanks my grade in a class I took like 15-20 years ago. Two questions. 1) WTF brain?! 2) Does it ever stop?

In 2005 I was a rising senior and was just considering the possibility of applying to grad school. As a first-gen academic, I had no idea how late I was starting this path. Now, 15 years later, I've learned that my promotion and tenure has been approved (in the same dept.)! 1/5

This is pretty slick — query with an accession and directly download actual read files (with preference for SRA or ENA) directly in @rpetit3's fastq-dl github.com/rpetit3/fastq-…; all wrapped up in a nice "rich" interface :).

As a group working on #scRNA-seq and #snRNA-seq analysis, we’ve noticed that certain popular and publicly-available datasets, e.g. the PBMC datasets from 10x Genomics, are used repeatedly for tutorials, method development, etc. and often reprocessed. 1/🧵

Did @10xGenomics just make newer versions of Cell Ranger open source? github.com/10XGenomics/ce… (cc @sjackman, @luizirber). This is a huge win for open, transparent, and reproducible science if it’s the case!

A CS postdoc making under $70k is literally probably at a third (or less in some cases) of their industry value. There are limits to how much of a financial hit people may be willing or able to take to stay in academia...

When I sign my emails “Best”, it’s short for “Best of luck navigating this apocalyptic Hellscape that has beset us over the past several years, and I hope, in earnest, to celebrate with you in revelry on the other side”. But that doesn’t fit on one line, so I just go with “Best”.

Thrilled, grateful and honored that our lab has recently received an NSF CAREER award. This will help fund our research (& my amazing students) for the next 5 years. It will also fund outreach projects that, I hope, will be informative and *fun*; stay tuned. Thank you, NSF!
