These gunpoint midnight searches have happened to me several times in the West Bank as well when I was a teenager. At least once, they wanted to take over the home but left when they found out we were Americans, setting up camp on our neighbor's roof instead for weeks.

Being a Palestinian means your existence is politicized. You get judged the instant you reveal your identity. Everyone assumes the most strawman version of your beliefs. You cannot advocate for rights, children not to be killed, or homes not destroyed without being harassed.

muslim and arab (especially palestinian) colleagues in the tech community i've spoken with feel uncomfortable speaking about their recent experiences, often out of fear of retaliation and damaged career prospects. our industry should be united in our support of these colleagues;

Thank you for this brave piece. Its been shocking how many academics are silent with all the universities & schools destroyed, all the professors & students murdered, and the elimination of an entire academic year from the population, aside from the much broader atrocities.

Agree. Motaz is a hero. He did not choose this life. He rose to the occasion, risking life and limb daily, to document the loss of his world. Hamas and Likud are both complicit in the deaths and stoking extremism. Extremists on both sides will wrongly say "there is no other way"

Get your raw data & upload it to DNA sites that track your ancient roots. We tried a couple, including the one by Israeli geneticist @EranElhaik. >98% of our ancestry is from bronze age Israelites, the canaanites before them, & even amorites before them.

How many layers to climb before casual racism becomes a Palestinian's biggest concern. Trapped beneath the rubble of active killing & demolition of homes, occupation, lack of basic human & civil rights, and lack of freedom. Simple racism is a luxury from here.

Thank you @sama. The tech & medical communities are two places where we should be unified against islamophobia, antisemitism, & anti-Palestinian racism. These two industries have people of all backgrounds working side by side daily to help ppl. Disheartening to see otherwise.
