"The two hardest problems in computer science are: (i) people, (ii), convincing computer scientists that the hardest problem in computer science is people, and, (iii) off by one errors." - @jeffbigham
I'm hiring a student researcher for next summer at the intersection of MARL x LLM. If you have a strong background and research experience in MARL algorithms, please apply and drop me an email (so that I know you've applied!)
Starting as an adjunct professor at the KAIST Graduate School of AI (gsai.kaist.ac.kr) today! Looking forward to spreading the importance of human sides in ML research 🙌
If you're a student interested in Human-centric ML research and ML-driven HCI research, consider us.
It’s finally official! I’m joining the @GoogleAI PAIR team! I am grateful for everyone who helped me along the way. Can’t wait to start and meet everyone 🙏
I'm excited to announce that @minsuk_chang will be joining the @GoogleAI PAIR team next month as a Research Scientist, growing our research expertise in Human-AI Interaction!
I defended!! I am forever grateful for all the support and guidance from the world's best thesis committee. I am so lucky. Special thanks to my advisor Juho, a true role model. Also thank you, mentors, colleagues, and friends who made this journey possible!
I now welcome a new Ph.D. to the world: Dr. @minsuk_chang! 🎓🎓🎓🎓🎓 Such a pleasure to have worked with a motivated, inspiring, and thoughtful student like him. It was a global thesis defense with 50 people joining from all parts of the world.
A bit late, but more personal news.
I started as a researcher at Naver AI Lab(clova.ai/en/research/pu…). I’ll be setting up an HCI team (with the help and support of amazing colleagues) here at Naver. 1/n
Excited to share that 4 papers (across three different subcommittees and topics that I deeply care about - gender inequality, learning with videos, user modeling) have been accepted to #CHI2021 !! Will share more details once camera-readys are ready 🙂
Hahaha Are you sure you got the right person, ACM? I don't deserve to be on this list. But I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this celebration and to raise awareness of the important work still being done to achieve equality for the AAPI community!
Next week is my last week at Naver AI. I am forever grateful for the colleagues I had the privilege of working with. Thank you all for helping me grow as a researcher and for your friendships! I know for sure Naver AI is bound for great things ahead. Farewell for now!
Did we stop working on HCI theory as a community? (honest question...) I'm looking for examples like information foraging and such. What did we develop in the 2000s, 2010s, 2020s?
Okay, so this is really happening. I'm defending my PhD in less than 10 hours. Juho is planning an "after-party" regardless of whether I successfully defend or not 😂 We'll see how they both go. Let me know if you'd like to come and see what I've been doing in the past 4.5 years!
My first Ph.D. student @minsuk_chang is defending his thesis tomorrow, titled "Mining Sequential Knowledge for Interaction Design" with amazing committee @aliceoh@nekozzang@roboticwrestler & Mira Dontcheva. 10AM KST Sep 9. Let me know if you want to join over Zoom!
We should do more longitudinal studies of "Intelligent user interfaces", and see if they REALLY help us become better at what we do. Do "autocomplete" really help us become better at information seeking? Do "sentence complete" features really help us become better writers? etc..
