📢 BC NDP opened the first Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) 8yrs ago. We now have 48. Govt has given us only cherry-picked good news. No detailed accounting of performance. I reviewed their own data obtained via FOI. It's bad. Strap in. 🧵1/11 healthdatabc.ca/upcc/

Everyone in BC should be horrified how @AdrianDix and @bcndp took a simple task (flu vaccine), applied government-knows-best overly-centralized thinking, and screwed it up. Just like they’ve done with everything else. He’s the #1 obstacle to fixing healthcare. He won’t change.

If @Dave_Eby wants a highly symbolic but still meaningful act to convince people he’s sincere about improving access to health care in BC, his very first action should be to get @adriandix out of health, immediately. If he doesn’t, it’s a clear signal to expect more of the same.

The @BCGreens have been the main political opposition to the healthcare disaster in BC. Both @SoniaFurstenau and @AdamPOlsen have spent incredible time to understand the real issues, spread truth, and fight for what's needed… for years. @SKGandhiMD will fit right in. Kudos!

Since @adriandix became MOH, total annual health budget has grown by $8B. $1B of that is head-office admin in MOH/health authorities (bureaucrats). Up 59%. Well-outpacing e.g. MSP payments (up 37%). Health system is far worse now. Good ROI? Good use of tax $$$? Good managment?

Had a quick skim through Dix’s new 86 page buzzword-laden health strategy. First impression… zero help now. Will result in a further explosion of administrative time and staff to “implement” this all-encompassing laundry list. Wholly disconnected from front-line reality.

Please, take 7min out of your day and watch @PennyDaflos detail the obscene denials, delays, and hundreds of pages of redactions to FOI requests. This is our public system, paid for by citizens, for our benefit. Why do need to fight for this data?

Everyone must read this horror story of what routinely occurs in an Island Health hospital. Then think about CEO Kathy MacNeil, the $300M VIHA spends on "corporate" operating expenses. Ditto Adrian Dix and the $3.3B diverted from front lines. Revolting.

I don't want @adriandix, @Dave_Eby and the rest to fix healthcare in BC. I have zero trust in them to do so. I want them out of the way so that people who know what they're doing and can be held accountable for results can do the job.

"There's nothing we could possibly do" says the man who's been in charge of mismanaging the system for far too many years. This "new normal" is a complete cop-out. Don't be fooled. The system is so fucked up because it's run badly. Not because it can't be run well. It can.
