87,000 Indians died fighting in Allied armies against America’s enemies I. WW2, and 2-3 MILLION Indians starved as the British empire diverted food from Indian civilians to the war effort. So idk man maybe that sorta is why we won WW2

because a 90 year old lady is going to have firefighters come when she crashes her car and going to have police keep criminals away from her house and going to have her kids visit her on roads paved by taxpayers old people are quite governmentally expensive actually!

I think a lot of liberals don’t grasp that the Bukele case has convinced a lot of conservatives beyond all possibility of persuasion that you actually CAN imprison your way to an almost perfectly safe society.

actually property taxes are the best tax. there is not a better tax. it would be better to lower sales taxes. or literally any other tax.

it remains truly wild to me that Australian, New Zealand, and American indigenous peoples have so often chosen to prevent genetic research into their histories. i just cannot understand the mindset of "no, i would prefer to know less about my ancestors."

That’s the best argument for voting for the GOP ticket I’ve heard in a while.

I mean this 100% seriously. I actually think this matters. If Trump is able to peacefully acquire American sovereignty of Greenland without creating like a Greenlandic insurgency or something, this will be one of the greatest feats of any modern president.

It's insane that it is 2025 and kids are dying of a completely 100% preventable disease because people were brainfried about vaccines by COVID-era arguments and crunchy nature-cult Instagramers.

This is a good example of how pensions warp peoples' perceptions. Walz and his wife will draw at least 2 and perhaps 3 separate state pensions from fairly good jobs yielding good pensions. Their de facto pension wealth is actually very very high, higher than most 401ks.

This is arguably the most important single piece of epidemiological research of the entire pandemic. A MASSIVE randomized trial launched a pro-mask campaign in some Bangladeshi villages, but not others. The result: masking villages got less COVID. poverty-action.org/sites/default/…

This is a nice example of why elites in ideologically egalitarian societies often wreck their own social order! The people at the top can handle vices that other people can’t— so they see libertine norms and laws as being less harmful than they are.

Neat! Although people with higher IQs do tend to drink more, they're less likely to be alcohol abusers. There's a practically linear negative relationship between genetically predicted IQ and the risk of alcohol use disorder:

Why did so many hunter gatherer groups around the world nearly-simultaneously and in an unconnected way develop agriculture? This has been a kinda problematic question in human prehistory. It may have been solved... by an economist? Studying the economics of... Earth's orbit?

There are not many places on earth where we have detailed cause-of-death data from before the era of widespread vaccination. Massachusetts is one of those places. From 1842-1877, 70% of all deaths were from diseases which we today have vaccines to prevent.
