I'm teaching databases this semester at Berkeley. My students all seem unusually brilliant. Not many go to office hours, and not too many folks post on the course forum asking project questions. Weirdly, the exam had the lowest recorded average in my 10 semesters teaching it.

I get the urge to dunk on this, but if you're *at all* familiar with the American South, this is incredibly impressive for Louisiana, and I genuinely don't mean that in a backhanded way.

I remember having a conversation a year ago about an incredibly worrying trend. In surveys, the dividing line between young voters wasn't just male vs female — it was whether you graduated high school pre or post-COVID. The latter group was incredibly anti-social and very angry.

Put another way, I'm pretty sure a lot of Computer Science students are using ChatGPT to complete their coding assignments instead of actually doing the assignments themselves. If true, it's a huge problem. The process of learning debugging is critical to growing as an engineer.

I’ve criticized California’s academic policies a lot, but people should understand what this bill does and what the academic landscape for children is now before getting their knickers in a twist. This isn’t the 1980s. Kids easily spend 3-4 hours a night doing homework.

The idea here is to slash USPS delivery to 1x a week and make it an opt-in, paid service. Do that and you literally turn Alabama blue.

Dear @DOGE, The @USPS is outdated and a complete waste of time for 90% of Americans. It's also a total grift by marketers, spammers and e-commerce companies to get American taxpayers to subsidize their businesses. I know, I was a magazine publisher and was SHOCKED at how little

A lot of people (including prominent journalists!) criticized USA's approach, which basically went "recruit the best immigrants to beat everyone else at their own game", but I can think of literally nothing more American than this.
