Only 19% of its third graders passed the state's reading test this year — by far the worst in the state.
Last year it was 28%, also the worst.

00:00 - Florida's surgeon general just said Floridians will have to maintain social distancing measures until there's a vaccine. "This is the new normal," he said. He acknowledged that a vaccine could be a year away. Then he was removed from the Cabinet room by @helenaguirrefer.
- NEW: Police body cameras captured footage of some of @GovRonDeSantis' voter fraud arrests. Those arrested were confused. The local officers arresting them were almost apologetic: "I’ve never seen these charges before in my entire life." tampabay.com/news/florida-p…
- Just went by the Hope Florida Foundation charity to view their tax documents. That’s any citizen’s right under IRS rules. They said they don’t have any records, including a Form 1023, which they had to file with the IRS to seek tax-exempt status in 2023.
- NEW: DeSantis wanted veterans for the new State Guard. But during training, a number of them quit, claiming it was too much like a militia. One retired Marine captain called police on the National Guard trainers, claiming abuse. w/@emro_, @anaceballos_:
- UPDATE: It appears Florida is now the only state not participating in this federal program to feed kids in low-income families. Every other state has applied. @GovRonDeSantis hasn't, even though it gives $375 for food for each kid, no strings attached.
- Replying to @lmower3Statewide, the average pass rate was 53%. These tests are important because they're used as a marker for possibly repeating the grade.
