My Daughter Shouldn’t Be Sacrificed to ‘Get Back to Normal’ via @TheTyeethetyee.ca/Opinion/2022/0…
Instead of getting inclusive public health policy that respects the risk to vulnerable people, we’re being told to not be so fearful.
I went to a pharmacy today where they still have a sign on the door saying “please wear masks inside.” It’s no problem for me, I had mine on before I even reached the door. When I went to pull it open, there’s another sign near the handle “ring the bell for entry.” 1/5
Some people get angry, loud, throwing insults and cussing, maybe even aggressive.
Asking people to protect others has become dangerous, and this small compounding pharmacy in the suburbs has had to resort to locked doors to protect themselves and their customers. 3/5
So I ring the bell.
The pharmacists looks up from the counter, takes me in, then buzzes it open.
I proceed inside, and it hits me why this buzzer is likely here. She was checking to see that my mask was on. Cause having to ask people once they are inside is risky. 2/5
They had rapid tests at the front & I asked if I could take one. The student pharmacist said “take four, take five. No one else is. People think if they’ve had the vaccine they can’t get COVID.”
“PH messaging has been terrible, hasn’t it?” I offer.
“Yes.” she responds. 4/5
I don’t know how this could ever get turned around with the general population, with where the messaging & mindsets have ended up.
People who understood what was needed 2+ years ago are still holding out. But the rest?
No one has learnt a damn thing. 5/5
I think this is what they call a viral tweet. 😳
If you have the means, please donate to your local food banks.
Thank you for continuing to mask & care for people in your community. It makes the world a little safer for us all & particularly those more vulnerable, as my child.
Clinicians, if you see a patient
wearing a mask - just put yours on too.
Don’t ask us if that’s what we want.
Don’t ask if we are unwell.
Don’t make it so obvious that you don’t understand infection control.
You work in a hospital.
Pretend you get it, and put it on.
Sold some LEGO for my son on FB marketplace. One of the sets was picked up today, and the individual purchasing it was wearing an N95 when I opened the door.
I told him thank you, I appreciate you, you’re not alone.
“My girlfriend is immunocompromised - so I’m still in this.”
I am fascinated that my MIL, who is not on Twitter or any social media, is acutely aware that COVID damages immune systems.
Though living in Canada, she gets information from S.Korean news sources and word of mouth between Korean church members.
I am on Instagram sharing news and Twitter threads on the state of our pediatric hospitals in Canada this weekend, and am capturing story after story of families of medically complex children essentially being *politely* denied care. /1
My 81 year old grandpa has caught COVID. Where? At the hospital, having cancer removed from his head.
The number of in-hospital transmissions in BC is appalling. We don’t attempt to protect the vulnerable in our communities, & we cannot even protect them where they receive care.
My nephew, 7 years old, is now admitted to BCCH. Transferred in the middle of the night from his local, smaller, hospital.
On fairly significant O2 support.
Positive for RSV and coronavirus. (Not SARS2).
So many sick kids, needing so much support, is NOT normal.
Have you watched your child struggling to breathe, they are working so hard their whole body rocks?
Have you had to hold them down while they fiercely cry, yet have no strength to properly protest the IV that now needs to be placed? /1
