Just got word I’ve been laid off at the Portland Tribune after 19-plus years & 45 years in the sportswriting biz. I was planning a July 31 retirement, but as Ralph Miller used to say, that’s the way the pickle squirts. Thanks to all you readers who have made my career a pleasure.

Dee Riley, wife of ex- ⁦@BeaverFootball⁩ coach Mike Riley, has passed away. She was 70. They were married for 43 years. It was one of the best marriages ever. Dee was the ultimate coach’s wife. She was loyal, supportive, kind and caring with everyone. R.I.P Dee Riley.

I witnessed a scene during Sunday’s @trailblazers vs. OKC Thunder game at Moda Center that was particularly memorable. There was a young boy, maybe 11 or 12, sitting with his father adjacent to me courtside near the end of the game. The boy was wearing a @shaiglalex jersey. In

Exactly how should the question have been asked? I asked it in a direct way and was looking for a response, not trying to “make a point.” I was surprised to get next questioned. But thanks for the critique

On Paul George saying “next question” last night, I wouldn’t read much into that. The question (“why did you dunk there at the end of the game”) was asked in a pretty obviously accusatory way and I think Paul felt that and didn’t want to answer.

I’ve known Terry Stotts for almost 30 years, since his time as an assistant in Seattle. He always treated me with respect. He’s a gentleman & a good coach. Nine years in one place is a long run for an NBA head coach. I hope Blazer fans will look back at his era with appreciation.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Brian Wheeler, the radio voice of the @trailblazers for 21 years (1998-2019). Brian had been in failing health for some time. He had a booming voice and a good heart. R.I.P. Wheels. #RipCity
