At @OpenAI, we believe that AI can accelerate science and drug discovery. An exciting example is our work with @RetroBiosciences, where a custom model designed improved variants of the Nobel-prize winning Yamanaka proteins. Today we published a closer look at the breakthrough. ⬇️

When Sam and us researchers say AGI is coming we aren't doing it to sell you cool aid, a $2000 subscription, or to trick you to invest in our next round. It's actually coming.

Today, I’m excited to share with you all the fruit of our effort at @OpenAI to create AI models capable of truly general reasoning: OpenAI's new o1 model series! (aka 🍓) Let me explain 🧵 1/

When o3 finished training and we got to try it out, I felt for the first time tempted to call a model AGI. Still not perfect, but this model will beat me, you, and 99% of humans on 99% of intelligence assessments. One can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel

Introducing OpenAI o3 and o4-mini—our smartest and most capable models to date. For the first time, our reasoning models can agentically use and combine every tool within ChatGPT, including web search, Python, image analysis, file interpretation, and image generation.

Excited to share gpt-oss with the world! We are releasing two open-weights models – one 5.1B active 117B total params and one 3.6B active 20.9B total params. They are very good for their size. In particular, running 20B locally is a truly magical experience. Enjoy 🫡

It's been an absolute privilege to get to work with @michpokrass on the 4.1 model series, and especially on nano which i co-led (shoutout @SuvanshSanjeev on post training!) 4.1 nano is a ridiculously small model, which made training this model challenging in ways many of our

Do: - Learn how to use AI - Raise the ceiling for what you believe you can achieve with future technology Don't: - Put your head in the sand - Burn all your savings on booze and drugs (at least not until UBI is passed)

Tokenization is just a special case of "chunking" - building low-level data into high-level abstractions - which is in turn fundamental to intelligence. Our new architecture, which enables hierarchical *dynamic chunking*, is not only tokenizer-free, but simply scales better.

Deep Research feels like the kind of product that by itself could be a huge company. And Neel is the type of PM who could be the CEO of that company 🫡

Absolutely incredible work by @alexwei_ @SherylHsu02 @polynoamial and co! When o3 came out I would cope that I was still smarter since its IMO score was lower than mine Only lasted 3 months lol

It's deeply concerning that one of the best AI researchers I've worked with, @kaicathyc, was denied a U.S. green card today. A Canadian who's lived and contributed here for 12 years now has to leave. We’re risking America’s AI leadership when we turn away talent like this.
